Pepsin enzyme: New proteolytic enzyme in our portfolio

In addition to our established expertise in the field of transglutaminase, we are currently expanding our portfolio with another enzyme: pepsin.

This allows us to specifically expand our range of proteolytic enzymes and create new opportunities for applications in the food industry, analytics, pharma, and other sectors.

What is pepsin?

Pepsin is a proteolytic enzyme that cleaves proteins into smaller peptides under acidic conditions.

In nature, pepsin is a central component of digestion in the stomachs of humans and animals. Due to its high activity at low pH values, it is also particularly interesting for technical and industrial applications.

Applications of pepsin

Pepsin is used in various fields, particularly where targeted protein cleavage is required:

Food industry

  • Production of protein hydrolysates
  • Modification of texture and functionality
  • Adjustment of protein properties

Dietary supplements

  • Use in products to support protein digestion

Pharma and biotechnology

  • Controlled protein digestion in development and production
  • Use in diagnostic and biotechnological processes

Cosmetic applications

  • Use in enzymatic peels to remove dead skin cells

Pepsin in analytics

Another important area of use is the analytical application of pepsin.

Due to its activity under acidic conditions, pepsin is particularly suitable for:

  • Simulation of gastric digestion in in-vitro models
  • Sample preparation for protein analysis
  • Investigation of protein structures in food
  • Analysis in the field of meat, alternative proteins, and complex protein systems

Pepsin is frequently used in laboratories when reproducible and controlled enzymatic protein digestion is required.

Advantages of pepsin as an enzyme

  • High activity at low pH values
  • Targeted and controllable protein cleavage
  • Wide range of applications
  • Enzymatic alternative to chemical processes
  • Efficient processing of protein systems

Quality and specification

Our pepsin meets high quality requirements (e.g., NF quality) and is therefore also suitable for demanding applications in:

  • Analytics and laboratory
  • Pharma and biotechnology
  • Dietary supplements

The defined enzyme activity and consistent quality enable reliable and reproducible application.

Pepsin at NewIngredients

We are currently developing our own solutions based on pepsin for various applications.

Our focus is on:

  • Application-optimized formulations
  • Stable and reproducible enzyme activity
  • Individual adaptation to customer processes

Current development status

Pepsin is currently in the development and evaluation phase.

Initial applications and formulations are already being tested.

We are happy to provide further information or samples for specific applications upon request.
